In this episode of Her Strange Hour, we’re talking about the mysterious disappearance of Theodosia Burr Alston.
Theodosia was the daughter of Aaron Burr, the former vice president of the United States, and she was known for being intelligent, educated, and deeply close to her father. But in 1812, after years of personal loss and heartbreak, Theodosia boarded a ship called the Patriot and set sail from South Carolina to New York.
She never arrived.
What happened to Theodosia Burr has been debated for more than 200 years. Some believe the ship was lost in a storm. Others believe pirates may have attacked it. And over time, strange stories, legends, and possible clues have kept her disappearance alive in American mystery history.
In this episode, I walk through who Theodosia was, why she was traveling, what happened to the Patriot, and the theories that still surround her vanishing.
